Two farmers and a game ranger, believed to be behind a rhino poaching syndicate, were arrested at 3am on Sunday after a sting operation by the Durban and Richards Bay organised crime units and national intervention unit.
The farmers, from Louwsberg and Newcastle, and the ranger were nabbed minutes after they cut a fence on the boundary of Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve, about 40km from Pongola, sources said.

The dogs, trained by Mechem, a subsidiary of state arsenal Denel, were deployed at ports and airfields to counter the growing trade of drugs and illicit substances.

South African sniffer dogs were being used to combat rhino poaching and the smuggling of elephant tusks, according to a report on Saturday.
The sniffer dogs recently uncovered a major drug smuggling operation in the West African country of Benin, the SABC reported.

Rhinos attacked, one killed in Eastern Cape!
A rhino has been killed and two of the creatures critically injured after poachers struck in the Eastern Cape on Friday morning, the Hawks said.
The attack took place on a game farm near Kenton-on-Sea, Hawks spokesman McIntosh Polela said.
"Rangers at the Kariega Game Farm were patrolling this morning when they found three dehorned rhinos," he said.

On their return to the UK, Team Rhino was born in a bid to raise money and awareness in a bid to stop the illegal and cruel practice. Their campaign – which to date has raised £1,000 – benefits the Save the Rhino campaign with funds to support its anti-poaching methods. Rhino horn currently sells for around £50,000 per kilogram, making it more valuable than gold or heroin.

Four men were arrested in connection with rhino poaching near Bedfordview, Johannesburg police confirmed on Thursday.
The suspects were involved in an accident near the Gillooly’s Interchnage on the N3 highway. While the suspects waited for Ekhuruleni Metro Police to arrive, they hid a cooler bag in nearby bushes. When police arrived, they inspected the bag and recovered two rhino horn.
