Where to from here....
The public outrage relating to rhino poaching is encouraging and we need to ensure that there is continued pressure to reduce the incidence.
On Rhino day 2011, the thrust was to educate people that rhino horn is not medicinal...sadly though we are not reaching the actual consumers...
How do you change a culture that is ages old when you do not have the ear of the people you are trying to influence?
This noble cause will not give us any leverage.... We should not abandon this direction, but I am of the opinion that we need to direct our efforts where we CAN make a difference.
Last week we again had poaching in the Kruger park. We can and must stop this trafficing...180 rhinos lost this year alone is unacceptable.
Every effort should be directed at bringing the perpetrators to book. As much as there is a price which makes poaching attractive, should there not be a finanical incentive for the public to expose the poachers? At present the risk to the poachers seems to be far outweighed by the financial gain. Can we not swing the perdulum?....
I had the priviledge of seeing some of these giants in the bush this weekend...it makes me even more determined to continue fighting this battle of the horn.
Please support this war..... we are aiming at donating in excess of R 450 000 monthly to fight rhino poaching in SANParks...
